An extensive two-month cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated following the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the ship staff realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A major search operation located her remains the next day.

Officials are examining the event, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that travelers and personnel on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" preventing any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

Sequence of Events

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who typically pay large sums of dollars to take part in the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

Family Reaction

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left the island after an organised outing without my mother".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mother as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a member of a walking organization.

"According to scant information we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have undertaken that might have preserved Mum's existence".

He mentioned that the firm was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had offered its complete assistance to the relatives.

The liner serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with forty-six staff, according to official information. It was specifically designed to access isolated locations of Australia's shoreline and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Occurrences like this are rare, and cruise ships have protocols to record which travelers are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard simply isn't an possibility," an authority stated.

Shipping companies consider these procedures with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such events from taking place," the specialist further stated.
