It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
