Zohran Mamdani Vows a 'Fresh Chapter' for New York City in Maiden Address
During an inauguration day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani committed to “reinvent” New York City, ushering in “a fresh chapter” and an ambitious start to his tenure.
An Unprecedented Figure
The young democratic socialist, who just a year ago remained a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first Muslim mayor. He also made history by being the first to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
“A opportunity of this kind is rare and rarer still is it that the people themselves whose grasp the controls for transformation,” Mamdani stated.
